About the EL program at Sunnyside and Island Lake
So what is EL and what does it look like at Sunnyside?
"English Learner (EL) is a program that provides instruction in language arts and other subjects for students whose first language is not English. The purpose of the EL program is to bring students' English language skills to a level where they can be on par with same grade peers in our general education classrooms. EL instruction is available at all schools within our district."

The type and level of EL services provided for each English Learner varies depending on grade and/or level of English proficiency. I may pull out students for intensive, direct language instruction in small groups or one-to-one, or I may collaborate with the classroom teacher to provide instruction and support in the regular classroom in which there are EL students.
